Sammy's Basin and Lock 22
Overview
Reviews 0

Sammy's Basin was named after Sammy Pearson, the water bailiff. It is a nearly circular pound, allowing as much water as possible to be stored between the two locks. Looking ahead, past Sammy's Basin, you can see where Lock 22 used to be. You can still just about make out where the entrance was.

Above the lock is the junction with the Fairbottom Branch, which goes off to the right.
The bridge across the lock, that you can see in the photo, had to be wider than the bridges at other locks as horses needed to go across to get to the towpath of the Fairbottom Branch.

- Walk up past the replica balance beam showing '22'. Continue straight ahead over the footbridge across the overspill weir and stop after the bench.
