35 Lenina Avenue

Sevastyanov’s House is rightfully considered one of the most picturesque houses of Old Ekaterinburg. The first mention of the building dates back to 1817. In 1860, the mansion was purchased by collegiate assessor Nikolay Sevastyanov. Being a wealthy entrepreneur, Nikolay Sevastyanov chose architect Alexander Paduchev to renovate the building. According to Paduchev's design, the mansion was rebuilt in the style of eclecticism in 1866. It became a real palace combining Classicist, Baroque, Gothic, and Moorish elements.

Eight years later, however, Nikolay Sevastyanov left the city forever and sold the house to the local authorities. It housed a district court until the change of power in 1917, after which the mansion was looted. Later, the first Ural Commissariat of Labour (labour exchange) in the country was located here. It was then that Catherine Square became Labour Square. Then, the Sverdlovsk Regional Committee of Trade Unions operated here for many decades. The modern history of the building began on the eve of the SCO summit in 2009. It was decided to turn the house into one of the government residences. The building was extensively renovated inside and out. During the restoration of the facade, its historically authentic white, green and terracotta colours were restored. Today, the house looks exactly as Nikolay Sevastyanov saw it from the main avenue.

The building is listed as a federal cultural heritage site. In 2008, its image was minted on the Central Bank's silver commemorative coins of the Monuments of Russian Architecture series.
