Silverado Park was originally called Northwest Park in 1920. The playground was always located along Santa Fe Ave. but the baseball fields were a tree farm that supplied trees throughout the city.

“The tree farm was so spooky. There was a tall fence with ivy growing on it and the tree farm looked like a haunted forest. When I was little I was so scared of that section of the park that I would RUN past it on my way to the playground,” recalls Joanne Trupp, a lifelong Westside resident.

Silverado park was a place to hold community events. John Muir School organized a “Country Fair” at Silverado in 1951. They created flyers that had to be hand copied by the PTA. Other significant events that traditionally take place today are the Children’s Christmas party and the Filipino Festival.
