Our History
Sledmere Stud was founded in 1920 by Catriona Murphy’s great-grandfather, Guy Raymond, who purchased a parcel of land from the property “Yarramoor” and stood the imported English stallions Newmarket and Quantock. Captain Raymond subsequently sold Sledmere and moved to St Albans Stud in Victoria. In 1977 his daughter Ann Raymond purchased Sledmere and began a Thoroughbred breeding enterprise which she continued for the rest of her life. Ann’s great-niece Catriona and her husband Royston continue the proud family tradition of breeding quality bloodstock.
Among notable horses Sledmere has produced are Queensland Derby and VRC Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Valance, multiple Group 2 winner Gold Brose (who went on to sire 14 Stakes winners) and multiple Group race winning Politeness.
