Have a look on your right. you can see a yellow building. This is a gymnasium of the Russian Museum.

In 1823, Pushkin's friends: the famous Polish poet Adam Mitskevich, Prince Vyazemsky, as well as the famous writer and collector Svinin rented the apartments there.  Amateur theatrical performances were held there.

In the 1830s, the building housed the Russian Museum, the publisher and the first author of "Otechestvennye zapiski" Svinin.  The richest collection contained a library, manuscripts, a numismatic department, minerals, a collection of paintings and sculptures.

In 1935, this building was reconstructed into a school.

In 1941, the first graduation of the new school took place. Most of the graduates went to the front during the Great Patriotic War.  These people heroically gave their lives in the struggle for the Motherland.  From the first days of the siege, the building housed a hospital.

In 1989, the school became the only gymnasium in the world at the largest European museum.
