Statue of King Christian IX. This is a statue of the famous Danish king Christian IX (1818 - 1906). He succeeded King Frederick VII, whom we had just seen. Christian had relations with various European monarchs of that time and, apparently, is one of the common ancestors of all the current ruling families in Europe. By the way, he is the grandfather of the Russian Nicholas II. In Denmark, Christian IX received the awards of the Grand Master and Knight of the Order of the Elephant, as well as the Grand Master and Grand Commander of the Order of Dannebrog; also received titles in Germany, Britain, Sweden, Norway, Spain and Italy. The author of the statue is a woman Ann Marie Karl-Nielsen. Thus, created in 1927, this is the first equestrian statue of a monarch, the authorship of which belonged to a female sculptor. The current Queen of Denmark Margrethe II is the great-great-granddaughter of Christian IX. Now we’ll leave the island along one of the bridges and go to it along the neighboring bridge. We walk along Tøjhusgade (Arsenalnaya Street) to the Museum of Military History and Arms.
