Svartalfheim

In early Norse mythology, Svartalfheim was the realm of the Dark Elves. However, in compiling the great Norse sagas, the 12th-century mythographer Snorri Sturluson combined the kingdoms of Nidavellir and Svartalfheim to make room for the kingdom of Hel. Although Svartalfheim translates as "the land of the Dark Elves", Snorri chose it for the realm of the Dwarves.
The dwarves live underground in wondrous halls, lit only by fire from their forges and torches. It was in the forges of Svartalfheim that the dwarves crafted the most important weapons in Norse mythology, such as Odin's spear, Gungnir, and Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.
