This historical site is where the proclamation of Brunei’s independence from the United Kingdom was made on 1st January 1984 and still used to hold national events such as National Day, His Majesty’s Birthday, and Maulidur Rasul (The Prohpet’s Birthday) Celebrations.

As of October 2016, the city is closed off to vehicles every Sunday mornings from 6 to 10 for Bandarku Ceria. It’s a weekly Sunday event for the public to enjoy the city with friends and family.
