This former telecommunication bunker - Grundnetzschalt- und Vermittlungsstellen der Bundeswehr / GSVBw 31 - as it is officially called, is one of the 32 nuclear-resistant and identical bunkers in West Germany, which were built during the Cold War in the early 1960s, so in case of a war still being able to communicate.

Several detailed descriptions are on the internet (for Example Virtual GSVBw Museum (German) from Vorbei e.V.) and Jackerath has been given about 15 jobs in peacetime by this bunker, but also apartments for the army's employees on the Hahnenkamp / Jülicher street, which have now become rental apartments.

The bunker with its approximately 3 meter thick outer walls is empty since the mid-90s, can not be viewed for safety reasons and the above-ground buildings at the gate are irregularly used for celebrations.
