We seem to find a great master inspired, working on a new icon. Andrei Rublev is depicted in a monastic vestment.

Creation of a true icon in Russia since long ago has been a sacred process. Russians never said "to draw an icon," but only "to write an icon." Because it portrayed an unearthly, divine world. To create an icon, one had to look not outwardly, but inside yourself. Not coincidentally that only in Russian icons we find a unique system of reverse perspective. Parallel lines in it do not converge to remote point, but rather diverge, as if leaving infinity inside the observer.

Icon creation was usually preceded by a multi-day fast and prayer. Often icons became miraculous. Pilgrims overcame a long and dangerous journey to bend the knees to such sacred image.

And some famous Russian icons were so miraculous that even their "copies" brought people relief from troubles and suffering.

No wonder great icon painters were often revered in Russia as saints. Andrei Rublev is one of them.

However, we do not know much about Andrei Rublev. The icon painter was born in the middle of the 14th century. His surname is connected with the word "to hack" and indicates that his parents were artisans.

In the chronicle of 1405, we read that Andrei Rublev was one of the masters who painted the Annunciation Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin. Three years later, Andrei Rublev already painted with Daniil Cherniy the walls of the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir. He is also credited with the authorship of one of the most revered miraculous icons – the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Finally, Rublev created the famous icon "The Trinity" being considered the masterpiece of icon painting of international significance.

The monument to Andrei Rublev in Vladimir appeared in 1995 dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the ancient city. The author of the work is the sculptor Oleg Konstantinovich Komov. He, like the icon-painter, had long conceived the design of the work – about 20 years. The monument to Andrei Rublev was the last work of the sculptor Komov. The author a year before its opening.

Very close, in the corner of the Cathedral Square the red brick chamber towers – the Old City Duma.
