Arsenal of Izhevsk arms factory is an architectural monument of Russian classicism period of the XIX century. This is the last building of the architect Semyon Dudin. Initially, the building was used as an Armory, where 75 thousand guns could be stored. One of the chambers of the Arsenal was a kind of Museum, which collected samples of all types of weapons, models of factory mechanisms, which were produced by the plant.
This is not the first Arsenal. The first was hastily built in a wooden building on the Militcionnaya street in 1812, when there was a need to store the products manufactured by the plant. The second Arsenal was arranged in 1820 in the East wing of the main factory building. The third Arsenal emerged on Karlutskaya square and became one of the Russia's best facilities of its kind.
In the center of the yard is a building for the Assembly and cleaning of weapons, it is also located factory school, where children were taught the secrets of the gunmakers. There were the gallery from this building to the main building to carry weapons in bad weather, keeping it dry.
During the First world war a two-storey building was built on the South side of the Arsenal building because of expansion of production. There is the residence of the President of the Udmurt after the reconstruction of the building. Now the Arsenal building houses the national Museum of the Udmurt Republic is named after the famous Udmurt poet Kuzebay Gerd.
