Formerly called the Municipal Theater of Cali, it is a theater declared a national monument in 1982.

With a Classic Italian architectural style, it has a capacity of 1021 chairs, its acoustics are perfect.

After the fire that consumed the Borrero Theater located on Carrera 4 between 10th and 11th streets, Manuel María Buenaventura promoted the idea of creating a new theater for the city. Due to the high price of the project, the Municipal Council initially refused the idea, but to solve the monetary problem, the city lottery was created.

With the presentation of "El Trouvador" by Giuseppe Verdi by the Bracale opera company, the Municipal Theater of Cali was inaugurated on November 30, 1927. The theater has undergone several renovations, the first of them in 1953, after the which the theater reopened the following year. In the framework of the 450 years of the founding of the city, various works were started for the expansion of the theater.
