The Gatehouse is on the corner of Art Museum Drive and St. Paul Street, in front of the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Ross Jones, who graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1953, later became a Hopkins administrator at the university and served the school for several decades. Speaking about his undergraduate years, Jones remembered writing for the News-Letter, which was then headquartered in the Merrick Barn. The paper moved its base to the Gatehouse in October of 1965 and has remained there since. Jones told a story about the commitment a student paper requires of its writers and its staff.
