This is the first architectural complex of that kind in Almaty. It was built in 1975 as per the project of the sculptors V.V.Andryushenko and A.E.Artimovich. The walls have engraved numbers 1917-1920 and 1941-1945. Those are the years of the Civil War and Great Patriotic War. The monument is made in the manner of hammered copper work. The first composition of the triptych is the “Oath”; there is a soldier of the Red Army, he is carrying three guns on his back, and holding the horses by the rains in his hands, the guns and horses belonged to his dead comrades. He is giving a kiss to his sword and swearing to revenge the enemies for the death of his friends, who were buried under black stone with an eternal fire. The second composition of the triptych on the right side is called “Glory Trumpet players”. It shows the faces of those who are in mourning for the killed heroes. However the trumpet player makes a positive note by calling people for the victory. There are capsules with the soil from the USSR hero cities. The capsules are buried into the front walls. The central composition is called “A heroic deed”. It is devoted to Kazakhstan citizens, who took part in the war, especially to the soldiers of the 316th division of rifle shooters under the command of the General Panfilov, who defended Moscow in November 1941.

This part of the triptych has a double background. The first background is a part of Kremlin Wall, representing the battle field. The second background is the map of the former USSR, emphasizing the unity of different nationalities in the common fight. The place of the memorial is crowded in May, when the whole country celebrates the Day of Victory. More than half of Kazakhstan citizens who left their homes to go to the war, never came back. Ninety-nine Almaty citizens were awarded with the title of the Heroes of the Soviet Union.
