In 1852, a monument to Grand Duke Mikhail was built on the Bazarnaya square, which was a cast-iron column,  with a bronze angel with a cross in his hands at the top. On the pedestal of the column on one side was the inscription: " To unforgettable General - Feldzeugmeister from grateful employees", and with another - date life.

The chief architect of the monument was Ivan Kokovikhin. Mikhail column  with the monogram of Alexander I is a monument to the triumphal victory of Russia in the Patriotic war of 1812.

Mikhail column was metal and one to one repeated the proportions and decor of  The Alexander Column on the Palace square. Izhevsk column was surrounded by openwork lattice of metal spears and barrels of ancient guns. Barrels of guns was sent to earth - a symbol of victory over Napoleon.  A fence made of cannons is characteristic  of the St. Petersburg motive. The total height of the column is 19 meters.

Unfortunately,  the monument was destroyedin 1918. The column was restored in 2007 by the works of architect Pavel Medvedev.

The Mikhailovskaya column is the only monument of this kind in Russia to Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov, who headed the artillery Department of the Russian Empire.
