This man in a cape and a beard is Birger Jarl. He ruled Sweden a very long time ago, a bit like a king. And they say he’s the founder of Stockholm. People already lived here, but in those days they just called it the City. But then Birger Jarl wrote the name Stockholm in a letter – which still exists – and that’s why they say he founded Stockholm. This was about the same time that the church, that Birger is looking at, was built. 800 years ago. But why is he watching the church of all things? Well, his son is buried inside. Maybe that’s why Birger is looking that way: he’s keeping an eye on his son. And I can understand him, even though the son died and became a skeleton hundreds and hundreds of years ago. For he has disappeared. Yep, he really has. For centuries everyone thought he was safe and snug inside his coffin. And then they opened it and found someone else in there. So now lots of clever people are searching the church, looking for Birger Jarls’ son in every coffin, all over the place. And they may finally have found him. There’s a mysterious heap of bone underneath the floor inside a secret chamber. Could that be him?
