The Tailors’ Tower is one of the few fortification towers of the old fortress of Cluj-Napoca that remains intact to this day. Its name is derived from the guild of tailors that financed its construction.
Starting with 1405, the Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg conferred to Cluj the title of “Free royal town”. This allowed the city to start the construction of walls, bastions and defense towers. The first confirmed documents date 1457, from the time of King Matia Corvin
