Again on your left, you see the "Dieventoren" which is Dutch for "Thieves' Tower". This tower is a remnant of the medieval defence wall that once surrounded the city of Amersfoort.
It was used as a prison during the Middle Ages.
Please look at the clock: It has only one hand! This is one of the oldest clocks in the Netherlands. The clock has only one hand, because in the old days, people were not so much in a hurry and did not have to plan everything on the minute!!!
It is never running exactly on time, because rumour has it, that if the clock strikes exactly on time, Amersfoort will be in for a major disaster!
Next to the Thieves' Tower you can see a former warehouse. This was owned by Benjamin Cohen, the owner of the House with the Purple Panes, to store his tobacco.
