After the nuclear explosion, in 1991, there was a great fire in this hall. Power blok №2 had a large load on the axle, which led to the complete destruction of its bearing shaft. Due to the depressurization of the generator, a large fire broke out, accompanied by the release of radioactive substances into the environment. It destroyed about 2500 square meters of the roof. The fire was one of the reasons Ukraine's goverment began the immediate decommissioning of the second power blok of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
