Tito's Villa Galeb

Tito's Villa "Galeb" in Igalo belongs to the complex of the Igalo Institute. Surrounded by a lush pine forest, it is strategically positioned to offer a magnificent view of the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. It represents one of the luxurious villas built for the lifelong President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito. The reason for its construction was Tito's treatment at the Institute, which was so successful that a decision was made to build a villa near this spa. The villa was completed in 1976, with the entire process taking only six months. It has four floors and covers an area of 5,500 square meters. The villa was designed to accommodate approximately 30 guests, with the option of utilizing medical and rehabilitation procedures. President Tito visited the villa on official visits four times, while his wife Jovanka visited only once.

Even today, just as in the past, the "Galeb" villa is adorned with rooms where Tito and his associates held meetings, watched movies, as well as Tito's and Jovanka's exclusive apartment, and the apartments where Tito's guests and close collaborators stayed. The most intriguing part for many is the atomic shelter, built in case of a sudden outbreak of war. In front of the atomic shelter, there is an aquarium where special fish were placed before the president's arrival to test the water for potential toxins, ensuring the president's safety. The extensive therapeutic area also includes a pool that could be converted into a dry sauna as needed. Beneath the villa lies a park covering an area of over 75,000 square meters.
