This 18th century home was originally built by a descendant of Gerrit Cornellissen, who arrived in the New World from Buren in the Netherlands in 1660. Gerrit’s son Martin later settled in Kingston using the surname “Van Buren”, meaning “from Buren.” The home was burned by the British at the Burning of Kingston on October 16, 1777 and was rebuilt with alterations to the windows and doorway. In the early 20th century the house was restored by Colonial Revival architect and Dutch descendant Myron Teller. A noted restoration architect and member of the Holland Society, Teller worked on many stone houses in the Hudson Valley.
