Tskneti is a small settlement, mostly used for recreation purposes, located some 20-25 minutes’ drive from Tbilisi. The territory was extensively greened in Soviet times, under Beria, who transformed it into the most prestigious and consequently pricey summer destination in Georgia due to proximity to Vake and relative high altitude compared to Tbilisi.

Unfortunately, the development that began in the 2000s seriously undermined the artificially planted trees, which fell victim to the so-called economic growth process. Both developers and local urban authorities were merciless in allocating space for erecting concrete jungles, resulting in the area losing its appeal.

In the settlement itself there are not many highlights apart from several scenic viewpoints
(alas with lookouts on concrete jungles) along the road from Tbilisi and some good restaurants. There are several walking trails linking Tskneti to Turtle Lake and Betania, but unfortunately these are not marked. Otherwise there is not much point stopping there.

Getting There: Public bus 106 runs from Vake to Tskneti (EUR 0.3).
