The Monte Sant'Angelo complex represents the most important milestone in the debate on university decongestion, started at the end of the sixties. If, at university level, the determination of the then rector Giuseppe Cuomo and a large group of teachers finally succeeded in bending the internal resistance with respect to the hypothesis of a new pole located outside the historic center, no less complex was the urban and administrative affair. For the area, then almost completely agricultural, of Monte Sant'Angelo was established a university destination in the General Regulatory Plan presented in 1969 and adopted in March 1970, but the hypothesis was then deleted before the final approval in 1972. Only with a subsequent variant, of 1975, the area was returned to the proposed university destination: within the vast hilly area, then, the Superintendence of Monuments identified near the access roads (via Cinthia and via Terracina) and near the recent private residential complex (Parco San Paolo) a narrower irregular perimeter within which it could be built, and therefore concentrate the university buildings. The surrounding area will develop into a series of abusive constructions, which will make it impossible for opportunities and economy of the procedure to expropriate even the area to be allocated to the park. Many faculties and degree courses are now housed in this large university citadel, and still others are in the process of being located there. They are based here, for example, Economics, Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, Physics, some engineering courses and many departments. The complex is characterized by a modern and colorful architecture, with large spaces, very green, and discreet possibilities for development. The complex is equipped with internal parking, bars, exhibition spaces and refreshment areas. The room, called Aula Carlo Ciliberto, with 710 seats, is equipped with amplification and recording systems, screens for video design, simultaneous translation system. The room, called Sala Blu, with 220 seats, is equipped with amplification systems with the possibility of recording acts and video protection system.
