Shdugra Waterfall is a must go destination in Becho Village and is the tallest waterfall in Georgia. The area is located inthe foothills of the Mount Ushba - one of many peaks in the Greater Caucasus Range and, subjectively, the most beautiful for its dramatic snow-capped and two-pronged craggy tips. Ushba has been a coveted destination for a number of mountain climbers, though not all the ascents are successful – once in a while the news channels broadcast information about climbers perishing on the mountain, unfortunately.
The hike to the waterfall from Mazeri takes around 3-4 hours for the round trip and passes through pine forests, with majestic mountain and fast-flowing river views. Reaching the top of the waterfall requires a further 3-km hike of moderate difficulty involving a river crossing.
Those ready and fit enough for further adventures can continue along the path for the more challenging route up to the Ushba Glacier.
Getting There: The easiest way of getting to the waterfall is by private car, driving up Becho Valley along the gravel road for as long as possible. It is preferable to park the car before the wooden bridge, rather than after, and continue the remaining 2 km on foot following the trail. The 22-km taxi ride from Mestia to the bridge will cost EUR 30-40 one way.
