Venetian House

In Citadel Square, close to the Clock Tower and opposite the Vlad Dracul house you will probably notice a green colored house with an unusual style. This house, now known as the Venetian House, was built during the 16th  or early 17th century. It is believed that the current style of the windows, with three-lobed stone arches, which gave the House its current name, dates back to the 19th century when that particular neo gothic style was developed.

It is one of the oldest and most interesting buildings in the citadel. It was the residence of Stephanus Mann, one of the citadel’s mayors and an important member of a preeminent family of Goldsmiths and leader of the Goldsmiths’ Guild. He was the most notable inhabitant of the house and has a beautiful and colorful tombstone in the cemetery next to the Church on the Hill. It is also known as the Mann House because of this.
