Villa "Casa Monte Tabor" is located between Ascona and Ronco sopra Ascona and it is known for the fact that two famous personalities lived there: Erich Maria Remarque (1898 - 1970) and his wife Paulette Goddard (deceased in 1990). Erich Maria Remarque was a German writer, well known for his books, which mainly treat the cruelty of war. His most famous writing is entitled "All Quiet on the Western Front" (Im Westen nichts Neues), published in 1929. His works have been translated into over 58 languages. Erich moved to Ascona in 1933 and lived for three years. Later, in 1939, he left for New York and Hollywood, where he met his second wife Paulette Goddard, star of Hollywood and ex-wife of Charlie Chaplin. In 1949, Erich and Paulette returned to Ascona and settled down in Villa "Casa Monte Tabor", where they lived until the end of their days.
