Villa Scheherazade (Illyrio's Palace)
Overview

Illyrio's Palace, whereoriginally lived the King-beggar and Deyneris, his little sister, was "played" by Villa Scheherazade , an operating hotel, one of the most magnificent in the region. The owners even call it "the Taj Mahal of the Mediterranean" in the adverts, but to be honest it looks much more like a house of some wealthy merchant.
And it is one indeed. The villa was built in the 1920s by the rich banker as a sign of his great love for his favourite. Here stayed Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and John McEnroe. The villa's main bedroom is called "The room of a Thousand and One Nights" in honor of the ancient Arabic fairy tale, after which the villa itself is also named.
