White Lady, 1961-1962
Elford Bradley Cox (Canadian, 1914 – 2003)
Marble. Gift of Mr. Kyles to Wentworth House Art Committee

Mr. Lloyd Kyles, the architect of the Wentworth House (now the site of L.R. Wilson Hall), donated the White Lady by Elford Bradley (E.B.) Cox (Canadian 1914-2003) to the university via the Wentworth House Art Committee in 1962. This committee of students and faculty were active in exhibiting and acquiring artwork on campus during the 1960s, prior to the opening of the McMaster Art Gallery in 1967.  Originally the sculpture was to be displayed on the circular brown brick patio in front of Wentworth House.  The location was not suitable or flattering to the sculpture.  It was later relocated behind Wentworth House in a treed area where it remained until the current redevelopment of the Wentworth House site. It is now reinstalled near its original location.
