Hi everyone, it’s Kamille again. I’m back to round out the end of this tour. As a reminder, I am an Economics and Political Science double major from West Hartford, CT. Welcome to Bendetson Hall.

Bendetson Hall is the last stop of our tour and is the home to our Admissions Office. If you do choose to apply to Tufts, you will have to write a short answer that responds to the question: “Why Tufts.” This is not only an important part of your application for the Admissions Office, but it’s also helpful for you to determine if Tufts is truly the right place for you. It’s for this reason that we like to end all our tours at Tufts- in-person, virtual, audio or otherwise- with our own “Why Tufts.” Of course I knew that Tufts had a tremendous academic reputation and that the proximity to Boston would give me great internship and research opportunities, but, more specifically I chose Tufts for 2 main reasons.  I chose Tufts because I liked the environment of academic collaboration and also because I liked how Tufts students all seemed to be civically engaged and passionate about their activities outside of the classroom. To speak more on that first point: Tufts is truly academically collaborative. Collaboration is a common theme throughout my entire academic experience. At Tufts, we readily form study groups and professors even encourage students to do this as well. For many of my economics classes we were allowed to form groups to work on problem sets together so long as we put the names of our group members on the top of the sheet. I think that Tufts students understand that in the classroom, we are competing against ourselves to be our best self in order to get that grade that we desire. We understand that we don’t have to compete against- or sabotage- one another in order to reach our desired goal. Instead, we uplift and support each other. And to my second point: Tufts students really are civically engaged. Of course you go to college to get a degree, but it’s your life outside of the classroom that really gives you a well-rounded education: your internships, research opportunities, community service- all of these things contribute to your college experience and they are integral to, not only your success in college but also your success after college when you enter the workforce.

If you are looking for more ways to connect with Tufts, the Admissions Blog Jumbo Talk is a great resource for prospective students. It’s filled with information and advice from current Tufts students! With a quick google search you can also find the Tufts Admissions Teams by googling Tufts Admissions counselors. You can also tune into live Q&A sessions that periodically happen on Instagram by current tour guides. Also, Tufts Admissions has access to a majors contact list where you can specifically get in contact with Tufts students that share your academic interests. All you need to do is email undergraduate.admissions@tufts.edu and request to be connected with a student studying a specific area. Then they will connect you with someone from the list!

That’s all for now! Thank you for visiting, and thank you for listening.
