Named after Queen Wilhelmina, this bridge connects the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel. The bridge over the IJssel was built between 1939 and 1943, but was blown up by the Germans during the retreat in April 1945. After the liberation, it was rebuilt according to the original design and put into use again in 1948.
The Deventer river port, dating from the Middle Ages, was filled in for access to the city. In the Middle Ages, the old port was dug against the edge of the town and in the Schipbeek basin using an old river arm. Originally without quays or shelters, the harbour got its final quay wall in the middle of the sixteenth century on the side of the Bokkingshang.
