You are now standing in front of Bredeplaats 3, a small and picturesque house. In the past, it has also been called the 'Witch House'. This due to the very dark past and rumors surrounding this place...
The story derives from the 19th century, when three elderly sisters lived at this place (or well, the house that stood here before, though similar looking). Almost simultaneous with the time the women came to live here, children started disappearing...
Rumors spread and those three women were suspected to be the 'children's thieves'. The locals started to warn their children to stay away from this place, as they were certain the women lured them in to perform rituals on them for their witchcraft. Despite the warnings, more and more children started disappearing. After the 23rd (!) child disappeared, the women disappeared as well. Neither of them, just as for the children, were ever seen again...
And though it was never quite proven that the sisters were the cause of the children disappearing, all we know is that it stopped.
Now advance your way through Bredeplaats and turn the corner to your left. Than, turn left again to reach the Nieuwe Stadsweeshuis on your left side.
