This is a walking tour around the Red Fort, the Qila-e-Mubarak or the Blessed fort. This impressively large and formidable fort was known for its grandeur and architectural splendor. The Red Fort was the Mughal imperial fort of power, the fort captured by the British to establish their supremacy, the fort from which India’s First Prime Minister Nehru declared Indian independence and now, the fort from which the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation on August 15th, India’s independence day.

Built by the Great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, The Lal Quila or the Red Fort was the epicenter of the Mughal empire who ruled India for 300 years. Located on western banks of the river Yamuna facing Shahjahanabad, the Red Fort occupies an area of 255 acres, which is double the size of the Agra Fort.
